Te Pae Roa Social Media Moderation Policy

Effective as of 16 November 2024

Purpose

This policy outlines the guidelines and procedures for moderating content on the Wai 262 and Tiaki Taonga social media platforms. The goal is to maintain an inclusive, respectful and engaging space that fosters dialogue whilst honouring the mana of the kaupapa and the kaikōrero.

Digital platforms can be seen as an online whare - a welcoming space where people can share their whakaaro and build connections. This philosophy underpins our approach to social media moderation and is guided by the value of manaakitanga, ensuring respectful interactions and safeguarding the mana of all those within our online whare.

Scope

This policy applies to all Wai 262 and Tiaki Taonga social media platforms, including but not limited to Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/wai_262) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/wai262).

Community Guidelines

We encourage open and constructive discussions, but never at the expense of someone’s mana or dignity. To ensure a positive environment, all users must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Manaakitanga: Treat all users with respect and manaakitanga. Personal attacks, harassment, or hate speech will not be tolerated.
  • Inclusivity: We celebrate diverse voices and encourage contributions from all community members. Content that marginalises or excludes individuals based on ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability, or any other characteristic will be removed.
  • Relevance: Ensure that comments and posts are relevant to the topic being discussed.
  • No Spam: Unsolicited promotions, advertisements, or repetitive posts will be removed.
  • Privacy: Do not share personal information about others without their consent.

Moderation Practices

Our moderation team will:

  • Endeavour to protect the Tiaki Taonga and Wai 262 community. We reserve the right to block and mute any members who go against our community guidelines.
  • Respond to user enquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Use discretion in assessing whether content is appropriate.
  • Monitor posts and comments regularly. We reserve the right to block and remove users that violate our community guidelines. We also reserve the right to delete or hide posts and comments that violate our community guidelines and/or contain:
  • Content that is inflammatory, insulting, or discriminatory, including comments that marginalise or target someone because of their ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability, or any other characteristic
  • Spam: Bot-posts, unsolicited promotions, advertisements, nuisance, off topic or repetitious comments
  • Private contact details or personal information you do not have permission to share
  • Swear words, profanities and threatening, abusive or violent language
  • Factually incorrect or deliberately misleading information. This includes misinformation that we know to be untrue and that might scare people or cause worry.

User Interaction

  • Engagement: We encourage open dialogue and welcome questions and feedback. However, we reserve the right to hide or delete comments that violate our community standards. We will use our discretion to block any users that repeatedly breach these guidelines.
  • Responses: Our team will strive to respond to queries and comments in a timely manner. However, we may not respond to every comment or message.
  • Reporting: Comments that put you or others in danger will be passed on to authorities. Users who submit illegal material or hate speech may have their details reported to authorities. You consent to our disclosing your personal information for this purpose.
